Currency Converter
Convert between thirty currencies at daily reference rates, with the age of the rate shown.
The rates are fetched from this site’s own server, so the rate provider never sees you; the amount you type stays in your browser and is never sent anywhere.
Every currency converter quotes a number, and almost none of them say how old it is or where it came from. This one does both, on the same line as the result. The rates behind it are daily reference rates published once a day by Exchange Rate API, and the page reports how many hours have passed since that calculation and links to the source. If the feed goes past the update time it promised, the tool says so rather than continuing to present a stale figure as though it were current.
More about Currency Converter
Rates are quoted against a single base and the pair you asked for is derived by division, which is why any of the thirty supported currencies converts to any other without a separate lookup. Euro to dong, won to baht and kip to ringgit all work the same way, and the unit rate is printed in both directions so the arithmetic can be checked by hand.
A reference rate is not the rate you will be charged. Banks, card networks and exchange counters add a margin to the mid-market rate and usually a fixed fee on top, so treat the figure here as the honest midpoint to measure an offer against, not as a quote you can act on.
- Thirty currencies, including dong, kip, riel, baht, ringgit, peso, won and yen.
- Any pair converts, because rates are derived from a common base rather than looked up.
- The age of the rate is shown next to the result, in hours, with a link to the source.
- The unit rate is printed in both directions, so the arithmetic can be checked.
- Each currency is formatted with its own minor unit, so dong and yen never gain false decimals.
- A feed past its update time is labelled stale instead of being presented as current.
- Your chosen pair is remembered on this device; the amount is not.
How to use it
- 1Type the amount you want to convert.
- 2Choose the currency you are starting from, and the one you want.
- 3Read the converted amount, and the unit rate underneath it if you want to check the maths.
- 4Use the swap button to reverse the direction without retyping.
- 5Check the line under the result for how old the rate is, and refresh if you want a newer one.
Questions
How often do the rates update?
The feed recalculates once a day, and the line under the result says how many hours ago that was. It is a daily reference rate, not a live market price.
Why is my bank’s rate different?
Banks and card networks add a margin to the mid-market rate, and usually a fixed fee as well. Use the number here as the midpoint to measure an offer against.
Does this send my amount anywhere?
No. The rate table is downloaded once and the conversion is arithmetic done in your browser, so the amount never leaves the tab.
Why does it need a network connection at all?
Exchange rates move, so unlike the other tools here this one has to fetch something. The request goes to this site’s own server, which holds a cached copy of the feed.
Can I convert between two currencies that are not dollars?
Yes, any pair among the thirty listed works. The rates share a common base, so the tool divides one by the other to get the pair you asked for.
